How to Feel Nice and Clean Whilst on Your Period

Being Clean and Hygienic is Important!

Tips during Periods!

Feeling nice and clean during your period means that you take care of your mood and hygiene. Taking care of yourself, your temper, your necessities and clothing makes you feel fresh, calm, fit and positive. You need to be aware of yourself, keep track of your supplies and pay attention to your surroundings. These simple tips will help you feel better during those days of the month.

Keeping Yourself Clean:

Change Often:

Keeping yourself clean and feeling nice entails that you change your sanitary product every four to five; eight; or 12 hours depending upon the type of product you use. Use a clean underwear once or twice a day in case there is no leak. Similarly, change your day wear every day to keep you feeling fresh instead of spending your day in the same pajamas. Likewise, slip into a clean night suit each night during your period. In case there was leak during the night, change and wash clothes and bedding in the morning.

Ensure Personal Hygiene:

During your period, try to take extra care of your overall hygiene. Make sure you use the toilet in a clean and hygienic way, taking care not to stain. Washing your vulva is important to keep away infections and resulting odours. However, after you use water, dry properly by dabbing with toilet paper to keep away odour. Use adequate amount of toilet paper to wipe and stay dry as much as possible. This will also ensure that your pad or tampon does not become damp, otherwise it could give off odour. Take care in using and disposing of your menstrual product and cleaning up after yourself.

Also make sure to remove or shave your pubic hair before your period starts so it keeps you feeling clean and odour free.

Use good amount of Deodorant:

Period blood naturally has odour because blood is mixed with the healthy bacteria in the vagina. It does have a metallic or even ‘sweet’ smell. Similarly, during perimenopause, period blood has a different characteristic odour. Moreover, some women and girls sweat more profusely during menstruation. So to feel clean, fresh and odour free, you need to use extra amount of deodorant during your period. For some women and girls smells become more pronounced during their period and they tend to feel irritable by the slightest odour. Although the odour of the period blood is not noticeable to others, body odour is uncomfortable for people around you too. Therefore always use and carry deodorant sprays to freshen yourself up.

Bathe and Shower Often:

Since odours can be a problem during periods, regularly showering and bathing is crucial. Take a proper bath daily during your period and intersperse the period with showers. Again, take care to dry yourself properly before putting on your period product. It is advisable to use a different bath towel during your period and you should certainly use a separate towel to dry your hands and face.

Keeping Your Supplies Clean, Stocked up and Organized:

Clothing:

Keeping your clothes tidy and stained ones washed during menstruation will keep you feeling fresh and clean. Also wear dark colours or prints to camouflage an accidental leak. Take out a fresh outfit every day to help yourself feeling nice and clean. Organizer your wardrobe especially during your period to avoid confusion and the feeling that things are going haphazard instead of feeling clean and fresh.

Washing dirty clothing promptly:

To feel clean and confident during your period it is a good practice to wash your soiled clothes or blood soaked underwear right away. It will take your worry away from lasting blood stains or filthy undone laundry. Some people may find hand washing easier than machine washing the lingerie. When machine washing it is cleaner and more hygienic to wash dirty period lingerie separately from the regular laundry.

Fresh Bedding:

If the bedding gets dirty during the night, change it in the morning. Yet, whether or not your bed is accidentally stained, changing it every other day will make you feel clean and give you a sound and comfortable sleep.

Keeping Your Surrounding Tidy and Pleasant:

Storage Area:

Ensure you have your full supply of sanitary products for the entire period. Store them in a hygienic and orderly way. Keep the area where you stock your period supplies, tidy and organized too. This will save time when looking for your things and reduce your irritability during menstruation. No matter what type of storage area you use for period supplies, like a drawer, cupboard or bathroom cabinet, clean it out and arrange your supplies before your period for peace of mind.

Bathroom:

It is important to keep your living space clean, hygienic and organized again for peace of mind and to feel clean. The bathroom where you need to change, keep your sanitary products, change them and dispose them of should be clean and disinfected. Utmost care should be taken to keep this place clean to avoid infections and room odours. In any case use an aroma diffuser in the bathroom.

Disposing of Waste:

Dispose of used pads, tampons or disposable menstrual cups in small bags so until you empty out the trash, the odour does not spread or permeate the surroundings, even though most products are advertised as odour absorbent! Empty out the trash once or twice a day depending upon the frequency of changes you do.

Room:

Your room should be tidy and cleaned. Keep away clutter so you don’t become edgy when your period makes you irritable and moody. Also think about the ambience. Have good lighting in the room during your period to lift your mood. You should use an air freshener for the place to smelling beautiful and you feeling nice and pleasant.

When cleanliness is your priority your surroundings will remain homely and comforting, which will automatically lift your mood. Small measures to make yourself feel nice and clean during your period go a long way in ensuring good hygiene practices, good mental and sexual health, great confidence and comfort.
