Make Her Life Easy

The Basics of Menstrual Hygiene and Guide

Wash Regularly. Bathe or shower at least once a day to keep your body clean. This is important and instead of listening to old wives tales and not taking a bath during you’re during periods. If you keep clean, you will not only save yourself from infections but also from bad odor. No matter how many perfumes you use, there is no hiding from the smell till you regularly wash yourself thoroughly. Every time you take a bath you need to clean yourself from front to back. Obviously as all women know the flow travels from all crevasses of the lower body and needs not only to be wiped but also washed with water and soap, hence only can be done during a shower at least once a day.

Consider Your Wardrobe. No matter how secure we try to be, there are always major chances of leakage. Whether you use sanitary napkin, menstrual cups or tampons, you cannot trust the flow not to show on clothes, so it is important to wear dark colored clothes, save yourself a wardrobe malfunction and embarrassment. Wearing dark clothes, natural fibers and loose fitted will help you in more ways than one. The non-mixed materials like cotton, linen, cashmere, will keep you cool/warm as per the season requirement, and not irritate your skin, which happens to some women as their skin becomes sensitive during this time. And for the loose fitting will help camouflage if there is an unfortunate leakage.

Change Pads and Tampons Often This is more important than all other suggestions. Trapped moisture is a breeding ground for bacteria and can lead to infections. Wearing the same pad or tampon for more than seven or eight hours can be dangerous. It will smell bad, that is for sure but the chances of contracting infections are much higher. As we know the blood flowing out of our body is not the clean blood, and should not stay in contact with skin and privates for long. There are also major chances of rashes on skin if the pad is not changed with regular intervals.

There are different kinds of pads, gel pads for absorbing and converting the blood into gel, so as to keep you feeling dry, but that doesn’t mean you can wear them for longer periods of time, rather it should be changed more frequently because it has excess chemicals in them to keep you dry and those chemicals are harmful.  The ones with regular cotton lining sure are healthier option though might not be as comfortable. The ones with wings and are longer are meant for the girls with heavier flow. By the end of your menstrual days when you are just spotting, the best way to get by are the panty liners. They are readily available, very comfortable and will absorb from spots to light flow.

Use the Right Tampon Absorbency. As many of the beginner wouldn’t know the tampons come in different absorbency packaging. The one with L written on them are for girls with light flow. R is for regular flow and S is for the heavy flow and are called super tampons, hence S. This is important for young girls to know while choosing the tampons to avoid any mishap.

In case you feel that you are nearly done with your bleeding but there are still chances of spotting, make sure your partner uses condoms to protect both of you from any infections as, the risk of transmission of blood based infections like hepatitis, HIV and syphilis particularly increases during periods. Using condoms is the best idea.
